Overview

Relatively flat, out-and-back trail that leads to an incredible 126-foot tall waterfall and swimming hole. Parts of the path are sandy making walking more difficult, especially in the hot summer months. Arrive early to beat the crowds and don’t forget your swimsuit!

Location: Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument

Duration: Day trip

Distance: 5.8 miles roundtrip

Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Our Hike Time: 3 hours (2:20 hiking & :40 stop at the falls)

Costs: $5 for parking (cash only, free with national park pass)

When to go: March – June; Sept – Oct

Dogs Allowed: Yes (leashed)

Where to Stay: Calf Creek Recreation Area Campground near the trailhead for $15/night

 

Tips

  1. Stop by the building in the parking lot and grab a pamphlet that describes the hike and history as you go. Along the trail are labeled landmarks with the corresponding information noted in the pamphlet.

  2. Use the bathrooms in the parking lot as the trail is highly trafficked making it hard to “nature-pee” in private.

  3. Fill up your water at the 2 spigots located near the trailhead.
